Lena nodded, tapping on Lupe's simple trick bridle, causing him to back up. "If that's what you want." With that, Lupe doubled back on himself, and cantered off across the paddock. Lena had just balanced herself on tiptoes on Lupe's back, when there was a loud gunshot echoed through the grounds. Lupe's head shot up, kicking up his heels and changing his stride. Lena curled as she was thrown to tha ground, landing with a thud in the sand.

Alex took one second to open the gate, moving swiftly to catch the horse's reins softly. "Easy boy." She soothed, waiting until he grew still before dialling for an ambulance, giving the information as she moved to check Lena's pulse.
"Lena?" She asked softly, moving to turn the girl over into recovery position, searching for a pulse, content that Lena was at least breathing, now she needed a pulse... there. Steady, slow and weak but there.

"A...Alex....poachers." Lena croaked, fury in her eye. She grabbed Alex's wrist. "Help me up..." Breath. "They are not taking any more deer."
Alex didn't move, so Lena gave a low whistle, Lupe coming to stand over her. She grabbed his stirrup, dragging her self, and running on pure adrenaline, stood on shakey legs.

"Lena..." Alex caught the reins from Lena, placing her foot in the stirrup. "Let me take this one okay?" She indicated a seat. "Someone's on their way..." She nudged Lupe softly, smiling as the horse jumped the gate neatly, riding off instantly.

Lena slumped back onto the ground, crawling to the fence, leaning against it. She knew that Lupe would be good to Alex, and that Alex, if nothing else, could handle herself.
