No more dreaming about tomorrow (JJ/Emily)

[Emily Prentiss]

Emily Prentiss stood watching the Jockeys preparing before moving into the stables and toward the horse she'd been assigned to. She knew JJ was probably out already, learning the curves of the course.

Her brown hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail, her brown eyes flinty as she began grooming the horse ready for the race. Murmuring soft words as she did so. The horse's head came up as it whinnied shrilly, she sighed and resorted to the usual tricks... music.

[JJ]

JJ didn't mean to over-hear, but had stopped outside the stall when she had heard the singing. "You have a great voice." She commented.

JJ was in a good mood, as the course was easy, similar to one she had done before. She knew that Mane Attraction, her star mount who was racing today, was good in the conditions that had presented themselves this late in August.

[Emily Prentiss]

Emily turned at the sound of JJ's voice, blushing a little. "Thank you." She murmured, giving a muffled yelp of surprise as the horse nudged her toward JJ, stopping inches from her. "Uh... hey?" She murmured, smiling a little, shyly.

[JJ]

JJ grinned at Emily's shyness. "Hey yourself." She murmured.

[Emily Prentiss]

"You reckon you can win... again?" Emily asked, slightly nervously.

[JJ]

JJ shrugged. "Probably." She smiled softly. "Do you believe in me?"

[Emily Prentiss]

"Absolutely." Emily replied fiercely.

[JJ]

"Then that's all I need." JJ smiled, kissing Emily's cheek, walking off as her race was called.

Emily smiled slightly, her hand raising to her cheek as she lead the horse out. "You might need a horse Jareau..." She teased softly.

[JJ]

JJ came back a moment later, helmet and crop in hand. She had slipped on her coloured racing jacket, and it clung to her body.

"Thanks." She smiled, ruffling the hair between Mane Attraction's ears. The mare snorted, and JJ looked up at her. "You're ready, aren't cha girl?" She smiled.

"Can you bring her into the start ring?" JJ asked Emily.

Emily smiled. "Sure I can." She agreed easily. "I know you two'll do great..." She moved to pet the horse's neck, leaning to softly kiss JJ's forehead. "I believe in you."

[JJ]

JJ pressed a kiss to Emily's lips, moving to jump into the saddle. Mane Attraction tried to leep forward, but JJ reined her back, holding her head under. "Steady." She turned to look down at Emily. "Thank you." She whispered, keeping Mane Attraction under control as they made their way to the starting gate.

[Emily Prentiss]

Emily smiled softly. "Go make me proud." She replied simply. "I'll meet you on the other end."

[JJ]

JJ kept her nerves under control as they were loaded into the starting gate. She focased all her attention straight ahead and she felt Mane Attraction's mucles tighten under her. The bell ran and the door slid open. Mane Attraction sprung forward with no encouragement from JJ. They sped around the track, keeping pace with those around them.

"Come on, girl." JJ whispered, putting pressure on Mane Attraction's sides, refusing to use the crop to whip her horse into action. They rounded the last curve and JJ leaned further forward, streamlining with the mare. Mane Attraction seemed to understand and JJ felt her push forward, making their way to the front of the pack.

The finish line drew closer and JJ felt Mane Attraction threw herself the last few inches. They were over the line and coming to a canter when the loud speeker annouced first place. JJ and Mane Attraction had made second. They were led to the winners ring to cool off.

Emily met them there, smiling. "Hey you..." She smiled, gently rubbing Mane's nose as she smiled at JJ. "You did great."
