Spencer trotted Monoosh steadily along the trails. They had been riding for most of the morning, despite the light rain and the dark clouds. It had stopped snowing and mos of the snow had already melted, leaving the ground slightly soggy. Monoosh took it well. Being a mountail pony, this was what she was bred for, and her ears were perked forward. Parts of her grey coat were slicked down, her long mane sticking to her neck. The pair cantered across the open field, coming to a walk as they neared the river. "Okay, let's have a rest." Suggested Spencer, letting the reins go, and tying her blonde hair out of the way. Monoosh picked her way carefully down to the river, which was twice the size it normally was, swelling over the back and up quite a way. Monoosh began to drink, making the strange sucking noise she always did. Their was a faint sound and Spencer turned in the saddle, looking over her shoulder. There was nothing there, and she thought she imagined it, when it happened again. Monoosh stopped drinking, bringing her head up, flicking her ears. "You hear it too, girl." Said Spencer, turning to look down the river. She gasped. A few hundred metres down the river, their was a horse stuck. Spencer trotted down their, jumping off Monooch. She teathered the mare to a tree, grabbing a lead from the saddle bag. Slowly making her way down the back, she could see what had happened. The horse must have been coming for a drink, but had sunk deep into the mud. It well past knee height, almost up to it's belly. Spencer reached out, clipping the lead rope onto the horse's halter, leaning back and pulling with all her strength. Within a minute, it was obvious the horse was to stuck for just her. "HELLO? IS ANYONE THERE? HELP!"

Leah was pissed off. Her big brother had ruined her laptop - the only thing keeping her sane during the holiday and her new step-parents weren't punishing him, or considering replacing it. According to them it was her fault for leaving it out and then pushing her brother, causing him to push a glass of juice onto the laptop. She scowled as she thought back to the incident, it was his fault for proking her, and besides she hadn't pushed him, she had tripped and fallen into him, then he used the confusion to pour the milk on the laptop, making it look like her fault.
She was so deep in thought that she didn't notice where she was going, and that was a dangerous thing to do in the woods, especially if you didn't know your way around. Leah and her family were staying in a lake side house during their easter break, hoping to spend quality time with her in the out doors. Leah hated the outdoors, the only reason she was outside now was because it was better than being with them. Her thoughts were skattered when a cry broke the peaceful silence of the woods.
"HELLO? IS ANYONE THERE? HELP!"
Leah moved towards the sound of the shouting and quickly found a girl a bit older than her and two horses in deep trouble, well at least one horse was as it was currently thrashing around in the raging waters of the lake. "Oh my god what happened here?" she asked stupidly.

Spencer turned, letting the lead rope slip through her fingers just a little. "I don't know!" Spencer yelled at the girl over the gushing of the river. "I guess she slipped in. But she's stuck. She's going to drown if we don't help her!"
Spencer motioned for the girl to come and help, as she went back to pulling on the rope, though it was clear that even with both of them pulling, it would be futile.

Leah went to help pull the rope, but could see it was pointless. "This isn't going to help, could you push her?" She asked, not willing to get into the gushing water, even if it was to help an animal. She was wearing new $90 jeans and she wasn't going to get them dirty.

((Wrong character, :P))
Spencer shook her head. "If either of us go in there, we'll be swept away. We have to think of something else." She paused, chewing her lip. The mare was still tossing her head, trying in desperation to throw herself free.
Suddenly, Spencer had an idea. She turned to look at Monoosh, who was still standing where she had left her. "We can't pull her free, but Monoosh could." Spencer said, handing the rope to Leah.
She hurried over to her grey pony, putting a hand on her cheek. "Can you do something for me, girl?" She asked softly. The mare nudged her, which Spencer took as a yes. She led Monoosh over to where the other pony was, reaching to take the rope from Leah, attatching it to Monooshs saddle.
She paused. "THis isn't going to work. Someone has to get into the water to encourage the mare." She said, turning to Leah. "But you don't want to?" It was more of a statement than a question.

((yeah thats right I'm using the correct charrie))
Leah was slightly offended by her words, though it was true. "I thought you said we would be swept away if we go in?" she pointed out.

"I'll only have to get to her head. Ankle deep. If you want to do it you can." Spencer waited for a reply. When she didn't get one she nodded. "I can do it." She paused. "But who will get Monoosh to pull her?" She turned to Leah. "You'll have to get on her. Ride her."

Leah was torn. She did NOT want to get in the water, but she definetly did Not want to get on the horse. She made a quick decision and wished desperately it was the right one. "I can't ride....so I'll go in the water, as long as your certain it's only ankle deep."

"Well, you may need to to go up to your knees." Spencer said, bitting her bottom lip. Why this girl, out of all the girls in the world? Why did this one have to be the only one around?
"You have to get in beside her, and nudge her behind her front legs, and help her out. Can you do that?"

Leah nodded weakly, she didn't like it, but seeing the horse's wide eyes made her feel like she had to. She rolled up her jeans to above her knees and ignored the voice that told her she looked like an idiot. She then made her way into the water. The fast, churning water made her freeze in fright. The horse whinneyed in terror beside her and she forced her self to take a step, she had to grip onto the horses holter to stop her self slipping. She took another step. She was already calf deep.
"What next?"

Spencer watched Leah make her way into the water. "You have to use the palm of your hand, and wiggle it against her side, just behind her front leg." She pointed, so Leah knew where she was taking about. "You many have to do it hard. Also, pull forward on her halter, to urge her forward."
Spencer moved beside Monoosh, trying the other end of the lead rope to her saddle. She turned to Leah. "I'm going to get on Monoosh. She can help us pull this horse out." Spencer informed her. She put one foot in the stirrup, swinging gently onto the grey pony's back. She leaned forward, whispering in her ear. "This pony needs our help. We have to get her out. You have to pull, okay?" Monoosh snorted, and Spencer took it as a sigh. She turned in the saddle to face behind them.
"Ready?"

Leah did as she was told. "Ready" she said pushing hard against the pony. She shifted her foot to make it easier, but instead slipped and fell into the water soaking her jeans. She swore and struggled to get up, making sure this time she got good footing.
"I was doing so well" she whined then sighed, "You owe me new jeans" she told the pony, to the girl she said, "now I'm ready."

"Okay." Spencer turned in the saddle, so she was facing forwards, she loosened her reins, giving Monoosh a light tap. "Come on, girl." She urged, and her grey pony took a struggling step forward. The pony lowered her head, using all her weight to pull herself up the grass.
There was a whinny behind them, and Spencer turned around, seeing the other pony trying to lift her leg out of the mud. "Help her!" Spencer cried. "Pull her leg out!"

Leah nearly slipped again from the shock of the pony's sudden movement. She saw it struggle to lift its paw out of the churning water and heard the girl's comand. She grabbed the leg with one hand, still holding on to the halter and pulled. Nothing happened. With a small moan she realised she would have to let go of the saddle and use both hands. She did this and after a few moments she heard a sucking sound and the pony's hoof became free. The Pony tentatively put it's now free hoof on the slippery banks, whilst the girl and her horse still pulled. Once it's was free she put her hands firmly back onto the saddle.
"It's out" She yelled.

((Okay, when was the pony wearing a saddle? No one leaves a pony in a paddock with a saddle on: Fail! I'm going to pretent that you didn't say that, and meant halter?))
"COME ON MONOOCH!" Spencer cried, giving the Welsh pony another kick. Monooch tossed her head, giving a loud neigh, and heaving herself forward. With a glance over her shoulder to see that the pony was still coming, she shouted to Leah. "Grab onto her mane, it'll help you out."
The last thing Spencer wanted now was to have a free pony, but watch the girl get swept away by the river.
