Maddison tugged on Blaze's rein's, making him trot beside her. "Atta boy." She praised, puling him to halt only when they were out of the stables, on the grass. "Oh where is she?" Sighed Maddison, shaking her head. "Trust her to be late on a day like this." It was the first sunny day in weeks, and the two friends had agreed to go for a ride. Maddison turned to Blaze, the copper gelding she always rode when at the stables. He had finally shed the last of his winter coat, and was looking quiet shinny. She scratched his nose, fixing his nose band. She sighed again, turning back to the stables. "How long does it take her to tack up a horse?" Blaze snorted, pawing the ground impatiantly. "I know, I know. I want to get going too." She knew it was going to be a wicked day. The horses had been stuck in thier stalls for days, and had plenty of entgy to burn.

Charity sighed happily as she watch Alex Samuels back fade into the distance. She continued to stare at the empty space he used to occupy thinking dreamily about the conversation they had had. I made him laugh she thought I made Alex Samuels laugh, ME! Alex Samuels. Already her head was filled with thoughts of them going to the cinemas, going on long horse rides through the woods and.....her day dreams were rudely disturbed by the impatient whinny of her horse Gypsie, a Cleveland Bay that had been rescued from a farm where they had been smuggled in from America to be sold at outrageous prices in Australia in near death conditions.
She gasped and remembered Madison was waiting for her outside, she began to tack up Gypsie all the while whispering things such as "doesn't her have the most beautiful smile" she sighed again as she remembered his smile, her stomach flipped as she pictured how the smile rose to his sparkling blue eyes. Her thoughts continually slipped in to these mini dreams, making the job of tacking up take twice as long. She had already spent 5 minutes talking to Alex and a further 5 minutes thinking about the time spent talking to Alex.
Eventually almost 15 minutes after she supposedly started tacking up she led Gypsie out to meet Maddy. When she saw her she couldn't help yell "You'll never guess who I've been talking to!" she exclaimed and without waiting for a response continued "Alex Samuels! Can you believe it Alex Samuels!!!" Her face was nearly bursting from smiling so much as she drew level with Maddy.

Maddison grinned, forgetting, for now, that Charity had been almost 20 minutes. "Well, it's about time!" She replied, leading Blaze out of the stable yard and into the mounting arena. "You've only been mushy over him for months!" She teased light heartedly.
"What did you talk about?" Maddy asked, swinging into the saddle, settling herself as Blaze tossed his head and paced backwards, more than bored with the conversation.

"Oh all sorts of things" she said before launching into an indepth description of everything she said and everything he did in return. She paused to mount gypsie and was about to contiue, but decided to ask Maddy where to first, Maddy could listen and ride and she could tell both horses were excited.

Maddison thought for a moment, chewing her lip. Her eyes gleamed. "How about to The Ridge?"
It would be dryer them most of the other places, as the water ran off there first. It would give them some time to talk before having a good canter up the hill, leveling off at the top, for a beatiful view of the stables and surrounding area.

"Sounds good" she said simply before restarting her description of what had occured between her and Alex Samules. She didn't bother to make sure Maddy was listening or even following her as she set off towards their destination.

Maddison was listening, but as concentrating on her riding too. She had perfected her meothod of doing both at the same time. She listen to Charity describe the conversation, while also working with Blaze at the same time. She brought his head under, tightened his stride. She checked her own body, and kept like that for a minute, before relaxing everything. Blaze tugged at the reins, and she lenghtened them, letting his stretch out his neck.
Blaze began tugging at the reins when they reached the base of the ridge. It was 200 metres above the rest of the town at highest point. But the acent was steady enough that the horses coulod make it with no trouble.
"Come on." Maddison grinned, turning to Charity. "Can you be quie long enough to get to the top, or should I leave you here?" She teased.

Not for the first time Charity wondered if Maddison actualey took in everything she said during her rants, but decided she didn't really mind. Gypsie whinnyed in, what sounded like agreement at Maddison's words.
"I'm hurt you don't know me well enough to realise I can beat you up there and still talk about Alex." To illustrate her point she began to describe how his voice sounded gravelly, but at the same time sweet and smooth and kicked her heels into Gypsies sides and set off at a canter. She hadn't gotten very far before the demands of riding forced her to stop talking, but she was enjoying the feeling of her horse beneathe her too much to care.

Maddison's mouth dropped open in mock horror as Charity cantered off without her, but it quickly turned into a grin. She leaned forward to whisper to Blaze. "We can beat her, no problem." She murmured, and the gelding tossed his head, and Maddison felt him paw at the ground, mucles tense. She sat up, bracing herself, and she let a small amout of rein slip through her fingers, and gave Blaze a sharp tap with her heels.
His ears flicked, and he lunged forward at a gallop, legs streching out in front of them, ground rushing past. The sound of hooves was all Maddison could hear as she came up beside Charity, giving her a wide grin, and settling into a canter a few strides in front of her.

Charity pulled gypsie to a halt and gasped at what lay before her. It was a female dog, covered in blood, lying in a ditch. Charity wanted to do many things at once, the strongest desires were to faint or vomit, but she steadied her self and got slowly down from her horse. With slow, soft steps she edged towards to injured dog, trying hard not to scare it. To distract herself from a fresh wave of nause she got from the smell, she tried to firgure out it's breed, but it was impossible due to the blood and dirt that caked its body.
She was almost next to it, when she remebered injured animals were often aggresive, she turned to Maddison and asked, "What should we do?"

Maddison was doing her best to calm Blaze, who had spooked at the smell of blood and was tossing his head, backing away. She jumped from the saddle, stroking his nose soothingly, before turning to Charity and the dog.
"We just have to gentle."
Maddison had seen horrible sites before; she had worked at the RSPCA plently. But even this made her shudder. She handed her reins to Charity, pulling a spare leadrope from her saddle bag and edging closer to the animal. Taking a closer look, she could see the dog was a Weimaraner, grey under all the dirt ... and blood.
She got down onto her knees, hands behind her back, and inched forward, slowly and carefully slipping the lead around the dogs neck. She whispered to him, telling him everything was going to be okay.
She turned to Charity. "We have to get him to a vet."

Charity was greatful when Maddy took over, she wasn't sure if she could do it herself. "Yeah we should, should we put her on one of the horses saddles and walk back?"

Maddison nodded. They didn't have time to ride back to the stables to get help. They needed to act now.
"We can't leave him up there alone. I'll ride with him." Maddison said. It was going to be dangerous enough as it was, without the added risk of having the two animals so close together.
She made her way back to Blaze, stroking the white star on his forehead. "I need you to do something for me, okay? You have to carry a very special package back to stables. I need you to be steady." Blaze dropped his head, and Maddison gave a small smile.
She turned to Charity. "If I mount up, do you think you could pass the dog up to me?"

Charity nodded. She slowly approached the dog once more. She gently stroked it, making quiet reassuring noises. The dog didn't respond, so she gently slipped her hands under its belly and scooped it up, being careful to have it's paws and snout pointing away from her.
He heart was beating so fast that she swore it would be disturbing the dog, but it hardly moved, probably unconious she thought grimly. She had to clench her teeth to stop her self crying, being closer and seeing the damage was almost too much for her.
"What happened to you?" She whispered, to Maddison she said, "Ok got her, ready for her to come aboard"

Maddison swung into the saddle as Charity picked up the dog. She gathered her reins, holding Blaze still as Charity moved closer. "Yeah, I'm ready." She replied, indicating to the space infront of the saddle. "Gently put him here." She relaxed the reins slightly, and Blaze didn't move. Maddison reached down, helping Charity place the dog in front of her. "Okay, that should do it." She said, almost uncertainly. "You okay?" She asked, seeing that Charity was a bit shaken.
