Jeanne finished helping Amy into the saddle, stepping back. "Tap your heels on his belly, and he'll walk forward. You too, Amy."

Amy was tapped her heels gently but nothing happened. "Why isn't he moving? I tapped him on his belly like you said."

"He's just in a lazy mood." Jeanne explained. "Kick him, and he will move for you. But don't kick too hard."

Amy kicked Stardust really hard in the belly. Then Stardust bolted and Amy was holding on for dear life.
"HELP!"

Jeanne, who was usedc to new students doing exactly what Amy had just done, had trained a safety trigger into the horses. She placed her thumb and first finger into her mouth, letting out a loud whistle that quickly went from a high pitch to a long one. It was quite distinctive, and that is why she had choosen it.
Stardust pricked his ear in Jeanne's direction, coming to a walk abruptly, almost sending Amy over his head, but luckerly she didn't.
Jeanne walked over calmly, as to not frighten Stardust. She reached up and took hold of his reins, looking up at Amy. "You okay?"

"It's okay. I'll help you." Jeanne reasured her. "You just have to be a little more gentle." She glanced over to see where Camara was, but she was happily walking Bailey slowly around the ring.
"Here," Jeanne lifted Amy back into the saddle, leaning over to grab a lead rope from the fence, clipping it to Stardust's bit. "Now," She took hold of Amy's heel, still holding the lead. "Just like this," She tapped Amy's boot into his side, showing her how. "Got it?"

Amy nodded. Then she kicked Stardust again, and this time he began walking slowly. Amy smiled.

Jeanne grinned, walking beside Amy with the lead. "See, it's not so bad. You're doing well. Now, keep your hands still so you don't give him mixed signals. To make him halt, pull gently on both reins at the same time."

Amy nodded and gently pulled Stardust's reins. He stopped. Amy smiled. "Can you teach me how to brush Stardust clean?"

"Just sitt down, and keep your bottem in the saddle as you kick him only a 'little' bit harder than last time." Jeanne saw Amy tense. "Don't worry, I'm got him. He's not going anywhere."
