Avril thought for a moment as they walked. "Um, well, I don't have homework. But after this I'm going to the stable. I have horses I have to work out." She smiled, waving to the man behind the counter as they entered the store. He gave her a friendly wave in return and Avril made her way to the back of the store and began checking out the lunging leads.

Sam looked down and blushed lightly as the man behind the counter smiled at her then followed Avril. A look of confusion crossed her face as she looked at the strange contraption Avril held. "What is this?" She ask.

"A lunge lead." Avril replied. She held it up. To anyone who didn't know about horses, it would look like a really long dog lead. "This here clips onto the horses halter, or bridle, and you can stand in the middle of the arena and have the animal walk around you in a big circle. That's why it is so long. And having them run around you gets out all their 'frisky' beofre you have to get on and ride them." Avril explained.

Sam nodded, only half understanding. "Is that what you do?" she asked.

"Partly." Avril nodded, picking up another lunge lead. "I lunge most of the horses first, and then I give them about a 40 minute workout each. I do what jockeys do, but just not in front of an audience. The jockeys have to be training with the horses that have races in the next few days, or week. Horses that don't have races for a while still have to keep in shape, but don't have to bond with thier jockey yet. So I keep them fit until thier races." Avril explained.

Sam nodded through out the 'lesson' and when Avril finished impulsivly blurted out "Can I come watch you some day?" When Sam contemplated her actions she was dumbfounded, sure she was starting to realise Avril wasn't all that bad, but she wasn't that close or interested, and she certainly wasn't interested in the horses, more terrified then anything else. She knew it was too late and rude to take back her words so instead said, "if it's not too much trouble of course, I don't want to get in the way.

Avril could tell that Sam wasn't all excited about coming to watch the horses, if not scared. But Avril had seen a few cases of horse phobia, and suspected Sam had something going on.
"Of course you can come one day." Avril smiled encouragingly. "Um, what are you doing after this?" She considered.

Realising that now was a good oportunity to at least postpone it, if not avoid it long enough for it to be forgotten she went to say she had lots of homework, but realised she didn't, nor did she have chores or any pressing buisness to attend to. She could have lied of course, but she wasn't very good at it, and her attempts were almost always caught out, which would make the situation worse, so she told the truth, "Nothing really."

"Well, if you'd like, you can come now." Avril offered. "I just have to pay for this." She held up the lunge, making her way to the counter.
She smiled at the man who was standing behind it, and he chuckled. "Not another one, Avril. Whast do you do to these things?"
She laughed. "You know racers, Heath, theyjust lov to wear out and break things." She replied, and he nodded.
"Too true. I hope you're taking care of yourself around them. I don't want to see you get hurt." He cautioned.
Avril cocked her head to one side lazily. "Heath, have you ever seen me get hurt?" She paused at his look. "Well, that was only once. Other than that?"
He relaxed. "No. But you have a way with those highly strung. I don't know why I worry."
"Because you're a good man." Avril replied. "And I'll see you soon. But right now, I have more than a few horses who need my attentions."
She lifted the bag containing the lunge off the counter, exiting the shop, only turning back once they were a few metres away, to see if Sam was still following.

"That sounds great" she replied, again with the blurting out she thought. She watched with a smile at the exchange between Avril and Heath, seems like I'm not the only one with a friend at the counter she thought
"You come here often I take it?"

"Ha!" Avril snorted, grinning. "Half the supplies at the fram belong to me." She replied. "So, yes. I come here often."
She shrugged. "They say I spoil the horses too much, but I don't believe it. You can't spoil a horse." She paused. "Well, you can. But I don't."
She shook her head. "Anyway, ready to go?"

Sam thought briefly about just how rich Avril must be, before replying, "I'm ready, where it is by the way?"

"Not far. Out by Brooklen. We can catch as bus, if we hurry." Avril said, slinging the bag over her shoulder as they made their way to the bus stop. "So, what hobbies do you have?" She asked, making conversation, though the question was genuine enough.

Sam was caught off guard by her question, no one ever really ever cared about her hobbies and such, so she was a little lost for words. After thinking hard she answered Avril, "Well I love making jewelry, but thats about it," she paused. "What about you?"

Avril shrugged. "Oh, most of my life revolves around the horses. But I like to write too, when I have the time." She smiled. "What kind of jewelry do you make?"
